St Brigids u10 hurlers participated in the Ulster Council organised u10 indoor hurling blitz on Sunday 19th April in Maghrafelt.
St Brigids entered two teams in the event and despite some late “cry-offs” still managed to field 9 players with one team of 5 and a second team of four. This was a fantastic experience for the St Brigids hurlers competing against teams from Donegal, Derry, Down, Tyrone and Antrim.
The combined squad had a total of 10 games with each player getting a minimum of 5 games each. All games were played in a fun environment and based on ground hurling rules. The firm emphasis of all teams and from the organisers was participation and enjoyment in a competitive environment. The players from St Brigids acquitted themselves and the club very well and ended the competition with a combined squad result of 4 victories, 3 draws and 3 defeats. The standard of hurling was very high and St Brigids competed against teams from Dunloy, Lavey, Kevin Lynches (Dungiven), Bredagh, Naomh Colmcille, Carndonagh and Truagh Gaels. Overall this was a great experience and a very well organised event with over 100 teams present at the blitz throughout the day.
Well done to the boys who participated on the day – Ethan Carleton, John Toner, Peter Henvey, Eunan Carlin, Charlie, James, Gareth Flynn, Calum Copeland & Matthew Kennedy.
Also many thanks to the coaches – Frank McGurk, Mickey Kennedy & Oliver Lennon for providing transportation and encouraging the boys throughout the afternoon.
