St Brigid’s U-16s started off their campaign for Division 1 league football with an impressive win over Davitts at Woodlands. The game began with a bit of luck for the Malone Men with Davitts missing their first choice goalkeeper . The St Brigids forward took full advantage, chalking up a big lead in the first half starting off with a Dowling score inside the first minute. The team showed the fruits of early indoor training as they out ran and harried the opposition relentlessly. A well rehearsed movement from training saw Mooney and Flanagan combining well together with Mooney rounding off the move with a well taken goal.
Into the second half with the Davitts keeper returning and St Brigid’s turning against the wind the game became a tighter affair but in an exceptional display of high fielding coupled with long range scores into the breeze from Leonard the blue and ambers maintained their substantial lead. A diving save from Campbell in the dying minutes denied Davitts target man “Arnie” a consolation goal to round off a sound defensive performance from the back and half back lines.
Coaches congratulated all on an impressive display, with Bailey, Cullen,Winters, Flanagan and Bogue all catching the eye with particularly strong performances.
The coaches would like to thank all the parents who attended and gave lifts along with Marcel for umpiring during the match.
