For the second week in a row the South Antrim Minor fixtures descended into chaos.
A game fixed for 11:30 at Shaw’s road was eventually played at Boucher Road at 2:30.
Unfortunately neither change was passed on to the St. Brigids minor management or club
Secretary.
St. Brigid’s took to the field into a breeze in the first half and had a promising start
With Conor McGranaghan a rock in the full back slot and Ciaran Connolly snuffing
Out any attacks in the corner of the defence. With Matthew Kelly filling in the centre
half back postion superbly. St. Brigid’s got two points from play and were well in control
However a mistake in posession in the full forward line was quickly moved to the other end
And a goal resulted against the run of play. Naomh Brid responded well with Conor Mackle
Picking up breaking ball and Cormac McGrady was a constant thorn in the opponents
Side. Ciaran Mackle and Paddy Nolan were supplying the ball to a full forward line that
Created three goal chances but spurned them all. Going in at the break one point down
It seemed that there were sufficient grounds for optimism.
However the story of spurned opportunities continued after the break and apart from a Jack Dowling
Sore from distance, an ineffective forward line continued were they left off before the short whistle.
Despite a great deal of effort the midfield sector failed to secure enough ball in the second period
And a loss of shape effected the team’s performance.
The final score of 1:4 to 0:5 in favour of St. Paul’s does not reflect the considerable improvement
On last weeks performance and with a few regulars returning in the coming week. The away game to
Lamh Dhearg will give a further guide to deciding which league the minors will play in for the coming
Season.
