On a sun-drenched Thursday evening St Brigid’s continued their run of good form with a well earned victory over Davitt’s.

Following on from their appearance in the final of the U14 Blitz competition, the St Brigid’s young ladies entertained a spirited Davitt’s side at the YMCA venue.

In the first half the South Belfast Girls, superbly led by Rose McKee, started slowly and fell behind to an early Davitt’s point. A second Davitt’s point followed before the St Brigid’s forward line of Catriona Montague, Hannah Loughrin, Rose McKee, Abigail Carleton, Naomi Morris and Kathrine O’Boyle finally got on the score sheet, with an unanswered goal and point. The South Belfast Gaels and Davitts continued, until the half-time whistle saw St Brigid’s go into the break with a slender two-point lead.

Half-time: St.Brigids 3:2 (11) Davitts 2:3 (9)

The second half saw the St Brigid’s defence of Aimee Duffy, Maria Blaney, Paula Toner, Julia Boyle, Ellen McGrath and Clionadh McGrady stamp their authority on the game, and restrict the Davitts girls to just two points.

With the midfield area now being well marshalled by Sarah Toner and Anna Finnegan, and with the introduction of Susan Durkan and Rachel Toland, St Brigid’s went on to score a further two goals and three points.
When the final whistle brought this very sporting contest to a conclusion, the final score was St Brigid’s 5:5 (20) Davitts 2:5 (11)
