St. Brigid’s reserves edged out by experienced Glenavy
St. Brigid’s Division 5 team suffered their second defeat in five matches in their fifth successive away game. The game was an evenly balanced one with a very young
Malone Road team improving with every game. Manager Fergal McCann will know that on a different day had Naomh Brid taken a fraction of their goal opportunities
Two league points would be in the bag.
A feature of the match was the point scoring and free kick taking of Rory Taylor
who could have put the senior forward line to shame on Sunday.
Glenavy got the better of exchanges in midfield and slightly edged the first half going in a point in front. Kevin Finnegan at fullfoward slotted home before half time after
A good run by Mac Sherry to keep the visitors in with a shout.
With the aid of a second half breeze Naomh Brid opened up the Glenavy defence
King, Mac Sherry and Finnegan all failed to hit the net and against the run of play
A goal from the Glenavy veteran full forward who had been well marked up on till that point by Richard Walsh put them two points ahead in the last five minutes and the hosts were able to give a few of their senior panel a run out and they had sufficient experience to close the game out
Despite loosing, there were some good displays from a very young St. Brigid’s team
Michael Malone in goals and out the field battled well. Andy Kelly, Ciaran Mackle
in defence and Taylor and Finnegan lead the line in attack.
