The club’s senior team made the short trip to Darragh Cross last Saturday night to take on last year’s Down Divsion Three league champions and came away with a five-point victory that augurs well for the incoming season.
Playing with the aid of a mild breeze the Malone Road boys started well and exchanged three scores apiece in the opening quarter, before Niall MacDonald knocked over to open up the gap between the teams. Joe Brolly, who was in vintage form, led the attack from frees and play to give the visitors a well deserved nine points to four lead at the break.
Darragh Cross held Naomh Brid scoreless for the first 12 minutes of the second half and narrowed the gap to two points. Some fine fielding from Dara Edwards in particular and some fine movement from Ryan Brolly and Rory O’Neill led to Joe Brolly extending the lead to five points at the final whistle.
The final score of Darragh Cross 0-10 to St. Brigids 0-15 was a fair reflection of a very promising last challenge game before the season starts on Sunday week.
