Darragh Cross 3-3 St Brigid’s 3-12

Sunday 4.2.07

St Brigid’s Minors recorded an excellent win on Sunday but sadly the game was soured due to an injury to Alaistair McAulay. We hope the prognosis is good and we are all looking forward to Alaistair returning to action as quickly as possible.

The game was played over 3×20 minute periods. In the first period St Brigid’s started off very hesitant although 5 points were scored by the visitors in 2 counter attacks they conceded 2 very soft goals to end the 1st period 1 point down. Chris Donnelly scored 2 points, Niall Murray contributed an excellent individual point. Both R Mackle and D Brennan added a point each however the period of play was littered with wasteful play by St Brigid’s i.e. poor free kick taking, countless wides and overholding of the ball. After a few home truths had been supplied to the players St Brigid’s playing the 2nd period was quite simply superb. The Co Down side were rattled by the South Belfast outfit when after some great play by Alaistair McAulay, Conor McGranaghan was on hand to blast the ball into the back of the net. Then the two Chris’s Mooney and Donnelly notched up further points Darragh Cross came back with a well taken goal of their own to let St Brigid’s know there was still a game on. However, that man Conor McGranaghan was on hand again to fire a screamer for St Brigid’s second goal. Two minutes later Chris Donnelly scored an almost replica goal to finish the period on a high note. End of second period Darragh Cross 2-2 to 3-8 St Brigid’s.

At the start of the third period St Brigid’s seemed to lose concentration allowing Darragh Cross to score another goal and a point. At this point Co Down’s outfit had got their midfield sorted out and their No.8 and No.11 were starting to dominate
