THE U12’s challenge match against St Pat’s Lisburn on Sunday, 11 February went the way of the rugby match later in the day. After a very promising first half with St. Brigid’s having built a strong half-time lead of 1-5 to 1 point, the hosts managed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory by conceding two late goals, to learn the hard lesson that its never over until the final whistle.

A total of 24 young St Brigid’s players got a taste of the action and there were strong performances from, amonst others, Cathal Conway, Fearghal Leyden, Hugh O’ Connor and Conor Hughes.

The final score of 3-3 to 1-6 in favour of St Pat’s was an unfair reflection on a very promising start to the season for the South Belfast team. Full credit to the coaching team led by Frankie Devlin, Neill Herity, and Dermot Harkin: their hard work is already showing a rich reward in a very high level of skill from the Malone Road boys. This Sunday St Brigid’s will host St Mary’s Rasharkin at the YMCA, at 2pm, full details on the website www.stbrigidsgac.com
