Davitts dent title hopes

St Brigid’s II’s failed to bring home the bacon from this Division 5 bout in Twinbrook.

After a nervy start the Malone men went into an early lead from a Mel MacSherry pointed free. The water logged goal mouth denied Keelan McCrudden a goal and the goal keeper made a good save from MacSherry. Paul Mc Crudden put over two good points to put St Brigid’s three up. Davitts were getting more possession as the game progressed and pulled back two points.
Brian Loughran, working up an appetite before returning to a wedding, put over a great point from play to follow a point by Duncan MacAuley from play. In the last 5 minutes St Brigid’s contrive to lose their momentum and let the home team finish on level terms.

Half Time Naomh Brid 0-5 Davitts 0-5

Davitts took control in the middle third after the break but failed to get scores on the board as St Brigid’s edged in front from MacSherry in what was to be the visiting team’s last score of the game.

A dropped ball in the square gifted Davitts a goal and they followed up with a point to get a strong hold on the game. A fortuitous goal which deceived Morrissey from the right put the nail in the coffin as Naomh Brid surrendered their league challenge with a bit of a whimper.
