Ladies Reserve Senior Championship Semi-Final
Sat 16th Sept 2006
Lamh Dearg 0 -2 St Brigids 2 – 10.
After watching their clubmates failing to reach their first senior final the St Brids Ladies upped sticks from Andersonstown and headed over Hannastown Hill to finish off a long day in their young football lives. The Mournes could be seen in the distance when they arrived but by full time the far end of the pitch was getting murky.
These two teams met earlier in the year and although the outcome was the same this was a different game. The home side have used the time well and they are now a well-drilled outfit. Their improvement was clear and they deserved much more from this game. Had it not been for 2 goal saves by Aine McKendry the result could have been very different. The Red Handers put 2 over in the first half while Jenny Mc Mullan hit 3 for the visitors and Naomh Henvey got 2.
Playing down hill helped the Blue and Golds as both teams started to tire. Substitutions allowed Claire Brennan to come on and take a goal and a point but Hannah Loughran stole the show in a very productive cameo role. Her older sister had come in support [as had other player – sisters] from Casement despite her own bitter disappointment from earlier. She may have wondered at the wisdom of some management decisions below but she had to agree that this was the right move. Hannah ended with a personal tally of 1 – 3 in under twenty minutes of play and helped raise the collective family spirit.
St Brigids go on to meet Aldergrove in the final but Lamh Dearg will go on to make further progress and work for next year.
