Naomh Brid seconds went to the excellent playing facilities at Sarsfields on Wednesday night and came away with both points to stay on target for Division 5 honours. Three games remain, a return to Sarsfileds, St Galls III and Davitts II. Win all three to win the league or get no return for a full year’s effort. The focus remains on getting maximum points from the next game whenever it is fixed.

Despite dominating the possession stakes Naomh Brid never really got away from their opponents and the 15 wides shot on the night shows where there is room for improvement. The strong turnout was very pleasing as the return to university bug is catching as well as the usual migration at this time of the year. That said 26 players togged out and at the last count 60 different players have featured for the reserves in all games this season. How come we struggled to field in one or two games!

Anyway having played with the breeze in the first half and leading by 0-9 to 0-2 with 27 minutes played the visitors contrived to concede a goal and two points before the break to go in leading by two points. Returning from injury Chris McCann, Chris Quinn and Keelan McCrudden sharing the scores equally.

Half Time Naomh Brid 0-9 Sarsfields 1-4

The second half saw Sarsfileds almost score a goal from the throw in but the St Brigid’s men steadied the ship. Paul Finnegan now operating at centre half back was still dominating and put in a man of the match display throughout.

McCann’s goal put daylight between the teams but again the hesitancy at the back let Sarsfileds in for a goal. A subsequent missed penalty for the home team let the blues off the hook as they steadied to win by 5 points.

Final Score Naomh Brid 1-13 Sarsfileds 2-5
