St. Bridgids started nervously in this rearranged Div 5 game at a splendidly
turned out Lisburn venue. After some initial wayward shooting from among others
Frankie Devlin and Keelan McCrudden, it was when these two players
found their range in the second quarter that the Malone road visitors made
clear blue water on their opponents.
Despite some hesitant defending from a rearguard that was lucky not to
Concede a first half goal, St Brigids lead at half time 11 points to 2.
With Paul McCrudden winning midfield and Conal Mallory having a fair
share in his sector. St. Bridgids were creating point scoring opportunities
For an industrious full forward line of McCrudden, MacDonald and Mackle.
The hosts still created goal scoring opportunities something which the boys in blue
were failing to do until super sub Greg Morris went close in the final quarter.
A reasonable display from midfield up, aspects of our defending will
certainly need addressing if progress is to be made in the final league games.
Scorers in chief Frankie Devlin 9 points (7 frees) and Keelan McCrudden 6 points
were the main difference between the two teams.
Holidaying manager Fergal McCann was content with a job well done but
will be looking from improvement in the vital remaining end of season games, when promotion is still very much in the melting pot.
Missing from action was Mel MacSherry who suffered a serious hand injury in Monday night’s Minor Chamionship defeat. Best wishes on a speedy recovery.
