St Bridgid’s travelled to play Mitchells in the all county Div 5 League last Sunday
and started brightly, with Mel MacSherry scoring two free kicks. St. Brigid’s dominated the first quarter but did not quite get the scores that their midfield domination justified.
As Mitchell’s began to make headway the floodgates opened in the space of eleven minutes Mitchell’s scythed their way through to score three goals. At the half time
whistle, St. Brigid’s were 3 points down 3:4 to 2:4.
The only glimmer of hope was that the St. Brigids full forwards were beginning to convert possession into scores.
The introduction of Paul McCrudden at full back helped seal a leaky defence and
Conor McHendry playing a sweeping role in front of the half back line did bolster a
porous half back line.
The Second half started with St. Brigid’s missing two easy scores, but St Brigids did eventually start utilising the speed of the front two. In a blistering ten minute blitz
Keelan McCrudden (wearing Eunan Conway’s boots, well at least somebody made
use of them to good effect) scores two goals to bring his personal tally to four goals and one point for the afternoon. This transformed the game and delivered a knock out blow for the boys in blue. The stand in manger was still berating the hero of the day for not scoring the other three goal chances that he created. St. Brigid’s were
on top at midfield were Conal Mallory totally dominated proceedings for the entire
Hour. Brian Loughran put in a battling performance in the half back line. Despite conceding a late goal a spirited Malone road outfit were worthy winners, and gained revenge for a defeat from their home game earlier in the season.
Man of the match must go to Keelan McCrudden, who found good support
From Fintan MacAleer, Brian Loughran and Mel MacSherry who converted 4 frees and scored 1.2 from play
