Glenavy 2:10 St Brigids 6: 15

22 players travelled for a friendly to Glenavy on a beautiful Summers evening. The format of the game was to play the first half using U-13 players only and for full U-14 side to compete in the second half.
St Brigids U-13 started on full throttle with a point from Campbell from a seemingly impossible angle in the first minute. Thereafter the squad put in a flawless performance of fast accurate attacking play and solid defending. The half back line moved up to Glenavy`s 45 and mopped up all their attempts to break out. Meanwhile the forward and half forward lines picked off scores with great regularity.
The few attacks mustered by a determined Glenavy side were repulsed by Webb and Winters leaving Salters in nets with little top do.
The half ended St Brigids 3:9 to no Score.
Gloves off then for the second half as Glenavy fielded their U-14 players. Recently defeated in the Feile final, this team were determined to redress matters in the second half. They took control in mid-field leaving Dowling and Lundy somewhat stranded and chalked up 2:2 within 6 minutes of the restart. Webb was recalled from the half forward line to shore up the defence and the rot was stopped temporarily. Cullen showed great determination to make the right wing his own and he proved the source of the entire quality ball into the St Brigids attack. Dowling, Lundy, Sweeney Mackie and Bailey all benefited from his hard work by clocking up points as Glenavy started to wane.
With 10 minutes to go Glenavy rediscovered their shooting boots and took some quality points from distance. In the dying minutes however Flanagan (just returned from injury) slotted home the score of the game as he took the ball from the 45 rounded 4 players and netted from 15 yds. A last minute goalmouth scramble resulted in an unfortunate Glenavy own goal on the whistle. The match was watched by a large crowd who fully appreciated the excellent display put on by both squads.
