The St Brigid’s U10s produced their best form of the season in securing a well-earned seven-point away victory against Killeavy (Armagh) on Sunday. This was the squad’s first 15-a-side match and the players settled very comfortably into the new formation, gelling well as a team.
After a tentative opening period, Kevin McGovern, who proceeded to dominate the crucial midfield area, opened the scoring with a well-taken point, which sent confidence soaring through the team. Shortly thereafter, in a virtuoso performance at full forward, Joe Cunnane cooly slotted home from close range, in what turned out to be the first goal of a superb hat trick. From then on the result was never in doubt.
The defence was excellently led by Daniel Rainey at centre half back, ably assisted by Timothy Evans, Jack O’Kane and Connal Moran, who repelled numerous attacks and linked well with the midfield.
Hugh O’Connor, Peter Morgan, Phillip O’Sullivan, Eoin Maguire, Vincent Harkin, Patrick O’Boyle and Aoife Maguire all gave spirited performances, contributing well to the fine win.
Final score: St Brigid’s 4:4 Killeavy 2:3
Thanks to Killeavy for hosting the game and for the welcome after-match refreshments. Imbued with confidence from this hard fought victory the squad is looking forward to next Saturday’s rescheduled away fixture with close neighbours St Pat’s Lisburn.
