Despite falling to a 1 point defeat at CherryVale Naomh Bríd contributed to the long running debate on amnesia. Drug companies around the world are now reviewing their stock prices as the players (or half of them) from the Saint Brigid’s parish cast doubt on the previous accepted fact that old people forget where younger members of society remember.
Yes Conor, Frankie, Fergal, John, Eunan, Ciaran and Barry (despite all being nearer twice Niall Corrigan’s age, or more!) (aye and Joe too!) all remembered that we had a double header against Bredagh.
Anyway enough about the potential ground breaking science, but before going onto the game, Brady, McHendry, McDonald (family),Kelly (family) Kerr, McLaughlin, Keown, and other broken promises, you will not share in the royalties from the new drug discovery!
After the heart-warming result from the senior friendly the Bredagh second string thought that they could emulate Joe Kernan and keep the soft boys from Malone waiting! Well in fairness after standing about for 20 minutes we were thinking of going home but in the interest of CLG N Bríd we waited and waited.
Right onto the game. With 10 players and five charitable seniors (well and truly warmed down) we started!
Half time Bredagh 1-6 Naomh Bríd 1-0. Aidan Owens scored the goal. And the boy from the big shopping centre in Ballymena hi, disappeared to the Wedding Fare. (where are your priorities?) Hope she didn’t hit you!
After a little discussion at half time we resolved to revisit our attitude and make a game of it and take advantage of the wind.
A more confident second half based on control at the back from Niall O’Connell, the consistent John McKeever and the mature Eunan Conway gave a more stable platform. Debutante Michael Grant equipped himself well and Ciaran “Haggler” Loughran definitely won on points, even if he was blown up for a couple of frees ( no whistle in boxing!) Brendan Sinnot was happier out on the wing as he entered his fourth half of the games!
Goals from James Loughry and Red O’Neill (code!) brought us back into contention along with Deaglan O’Hagan’s two excellent points.
But back to the science, Lockie predicted that Deaghlan could only get a 50 two foot of the ground. How right he was and it maybe now is fair to say that youth can predict the future but forget the past. (what they heard on Thursday night!) Enough of that.
Paul McCrudden, Eoin Murphy, and Liam Murray all worked tirelessly to supply Barry Gormley, Paddy Taylor (on the ball a lot) and Duncan MacAuley (how many frees can you miss in one game!) (Ask Barry, Ruari, Aidan and those afraid to take them).
Disaster struck when Mark Sweeney could toil no more and with no subs left, Naomh Brid had to introduce a man standing on the sideline , and with the first touch of the ball he scored a wondrous point from 12 yards to bring the boys in blue to within 1 point.
Despite a good effort Red could not convert a last minute free to level the contest.
