Match Reports

St Brigids U–10s had a great day out on Saturday 18th June at the St Paul’s Jack Mc Cartan competition at the Shaw’s Road pitches. After arriving early and eager with anticipation they eventually played Lamh Dearg in their first game. Despite the cramped pitches we started well and dominated the game throughout. Jarlath and Kevin Mc Govern held sway at midfield with Joe Keenan, Luke Kelly and Sean Mc Kernan strong in defence when needed. It was up front however that the real damage was done with Fergal Leyden the major playmaker and goals from Joe Kinnana and Conor Leonard setting up victory.

Our next game was against St Pauls, the hosts, and once again we quickly settled into dominance with St Pauls making only occasional forays into our half. In defence Gareth Mulholland, Niall Devlin, Conal Moran and Hugh Conor were strong, with our midfield once again dominant. Up front scores from Conor Hughes and Fergal Leyden with support from Patrick Mc Cormick, Peter Mc Ginnity and Eoin helped us to another easy victory which qualified us for a meeting with Rossa in the semi final.

After the fairly facile progression in the first two matches its fair to say that Rossa provided a major step up in quality and dominated the first half. A number of players fought valiantly, and after a stern team talk from Dermot, St Brigids put in a much better second half performance and were able to leave the pitch defeated, but with their heads held high.

We now played St Teresas in the Shield final and were much more switched on and ready for the challenge. There were some positional changes to strengthen the team and everyone contributed to a great victory with Gareth Mulholland, Conor Hughes, Hugh Connor, Niall Devlin, Sean McKernan, Luke Kelly and John Keenan an excellent defensive unit. Jarlath and Kevin were again strong in midfield and our forwards, Fergal Leyden, Cathal Conway, Joe Kinane, Conor Leonard and Peter McGinnity supported well by Patrick McCormick and others. A good day was then capped when Kevin lifted the shield for St Brigids. No doubt one of many successes for a quality U-10 outfit.
