The Under 10’s travelled to Newry for the Annual Under 10 Blitz. Over 20 Teams took part in this prestigious Under Age Tournament. It proved to be a positive experience for all involved. St Brigid’s squad responded well throughout and gave a fine performance in each of their four matches.

MATCH 1 St Brigid’s v Rostrevor
0:0 3:1

In their first match St Brigid’s met last year’s winners Rostrevor. The squad played well, although it took them a while to settle into the Match. Restrevor showed their strengths and while St Brigid’s play did not translate itself into a score they defended well with a memorable block from Patrick McCormack.

MATCH 2 St Brigid’s v Castleblaney Faughs
2:0 0:0

Having settled into the game, the Under 10’s gave an impressive performance in all areas of the field. Phillip O’Sullivan provided strength in defence.

Peter McGinnity performed well up front giving St Brigid’s their first goal, while Joe Cunnane’s pass from right wing gave Cathal Conway what he needed to score their second.

MATCH 3 St Brigid’s v Longstone
0:2 0:0

The squad knew to get a place in the quarterfinals this Match had to go their way and they addressed their minds to the task in hand. This was a well-paced game with forward defence and midfield playing well. Kevin McGovern had come out of nets and showed his versatility on the field while Feargal Leyden’s ability at getting the ball over the bar and on two occasions clinched St Brigid’s victory and secured them a place in the next round.

MATCH 4 St Brigid’s v Armagh Harps
1:1 1:3

St Brigid’s gave a find performance against the boys from Armagh, who also showed their abilities on the field. These Under 10’s demonstrated great passing and blocking skills and there was a fine performance by Hugh O’Connor on the Pitch. Cathal Conway fought hard to get St Brigid’s a goal and Feargal Leyden’s well placed point brought the score to 1:1 for the Belfast boys. However the Armagh Harps battled well and with a two-point lead at full time secured their place in the semi-final.
