Trailing by 2 – 5 to 0 – 3 at half time St Brigids looked down and out in this Division 4 game at Milltown. In truth however the goals had been conceded early on and somewhat against the run of play and the visitors had hit a succession of wides before finally registering a score.
After some words of inspiration from veteran Oliver Lennon at the break, St Brigids dominated the second half proceedings. Indeed it was Lennon who led by example and when he rose to fist the ball past the St Galls keeper the margin was down to three points. The home side rallied however and notched a couple of scores before Ceelan McCrudden again narrowed the gap. Late on McCrudden rattled the bar before that man Lennon took his personal tally to 1 – 3. It was too little too late as referee (Eunan Conway) finally blew the game up before darkness fell, having played as much injury time as he could invent.
Full Time: St Galls 2 – 9
St Brigids 1 – 9
This was a spirited performance by the 21 players used (including a blood sub). Stephen Morrisey was solid in goals and thankfully only managed one booking. Chris Rogers performed well at No. 6, as did Conor McKendry when introduced. Conal Mallory and John Doran more than held their own in midfield while up front Stephen Donnelly and Ceelan Mc Crudden proved useful assistants to star man, Oliver Lennon.
