HISTORIC DAY FOR LADIES – U14S WIN ANTRIM FEILE PLATE

Sunday 8th May 2005 marks the date of the first competition won by St Brigid’s Ladies when the u14s proved their mettle by winning the Antrim Feile Plate. After losing heavily to St Paul’s A team in the first round they went on to overwhelm Moneyglass 4-2 to 0-0 and St Paul’s B 5-3 to 0-0 to secure the Plate.
Despite the absence of key players including the McMullan sisters (no they are not twins!),Claire Brennan and Maeve Ferguson, this young team played with great determination and a lot of skill to record two magnificent victories.Every one of this enthusiastic squad of 17 played their part. A strong midfield pairing of Mary Keenan and Anna Finnegan, driven on by half backs Niamh O’Hare,Lucy McGread and Rose McKeogh supplied a rampant forward line with a lot of ball including Catherine McAuley,Eimear Duggan and Aoife Montague. The P7 girls Charlie, Anna,Molly and Emma also played their part.
A massive thanks to Aidan and Conal Owens and Niall Corrigan for giving up their time to coach this squad – Joe Brolly would have been proud to see his kicking skills handed down through the boys to this u14 squad!
Whilst we still have a mountain to climb – not least an early rematch against St Paul’s A on Tuesday night – this team is on its way.
A big thanks also to the organisers of the tournament for a very well run event which was conducted in a most sporting manner with St Paul’s A worthy winners of the main trophy after pipping St.Gall’s in a tense final.
Finally parents should note that they are permitted to come along and support their daughters and admission is free so why not bring all the family!
