Meanwhile the Division 3 side made it two wins from two before the Easter break with a comfortable victory over O’Donnells. In fact the game seemed over as a contest with the visitors cruising 2 – 4 to a point after 10 minutes, the goals coming from Joe Brolly and Mark Kelly. The players obviously felt the same and decided to take a break to half time. Indeed, had it not been for the stubborn defence of Joe McKeever, Paul Finnegan and Malachy O’Kane plus the heroics of John Mackle in goals, the home side would most certainly have led at the break.
Half Time: O’Donnells 0 – 5 St Brigids 2 – 5
The break came at the right time for St Brigids and, after a few words of encouragement in the changing room, they soon resumed control. When, midway through the half, a fortuitous lob from James Loughrey finished in the net, the game really was over. Late on, Conor Taylor capped his substitute appearance by latching on to a clever pass from Brolly to crash the ball to the roof of the O’Donnells goal.
Along with those already mentioned, Eunan Conway had a solid game in defence while Paddy McDonald and Conor Mullan, at times, looked an effective mid-field pairing.
Up front, it was the Joe Brolly show, scoring 1 – 6 from play and playing a part in the three other goals. Deaghlan O’Hagan worked tirelessly while young Mark Kelly notched 1 – 2 on the day.
Full Time: O’Donnells 0 – 7 St Brigids 4 – 12
Both teams have a break this week and return to action on Sunday week.
