Brid Óg U10s played in the grading groups of the N Antrim league at St Patrick’s College in  Ballymena.

There was a very full programme of games.

Following an opening defeat to Rossa, the Ógs had a great day thereafter, winning 4 and drawing 1 of their remaining 5 games to finish joint second in the group.

Conor opened the scoring against Rossa as Brid Óg started on the front foot. However, Rossa came in to the game and overturned the score and came away with a 3-1 win.

After that initial blow, Brid Óg faced a tough game against Lougheil Shamrocks 1st team. They responded fantastically, winning 4-2 in a fast and exciting match. Dara scored 2 goals, with James B and Conor adding to this.

Next up was St Ergnat’s of Moneyglass. Brid Óg were dominating possession, but couldn’t make the breakthrough. Donncha was sprung from the bench and seized his opportunity by scoring 2 goals to give the Ógs the victory.

Brid Óg then had a lengthy break before the next match against Davitt’s, who had shown their worth by earning a draw against Rossa.A tough match was expected. This turned out to be the case. Brid Óg bossed most of the game and near the end a James K shot sneaked in. However, after the all games were finished it transpired that the goal had not counted,  due to an earlier infringement. Result, a nil all draw.

There was one final game to play against Lougheil 2 and Conor scored a neat goal from a narrow angle, to win another very competitive  match, 1-0.

At the end of the games Rossa had topped the group with 11 points after winning 5 and drawing 1 match. Brid Óg and Davitts were joint second with 9 points.

So, we await notification from North Antrim as to what division we will be graded in for the competition proper next weekend.

Thanks to Owen Elliot and others of N Antrim for organising the competition and  to Roisin and the All Saints mentors for officiating at the games. Also, to Ciaran,  Darren and Frank for their help with the team and to the travelling support who gave the boys much needed encouragement in some very tight games.
