Despite a huge effort from our u14 ladies today at the Waterworks’ Park, our performance saw us fall just short of a final spot at Winter League 2015 competition! A huge thanks to players, coaches, referees, parents and supporters who have stuck with us over 10 weeks of intense pre-season matches!

After a blistering battle with a fiery Sarsfield’s squad in today’s qualifier, it took an extra time comeback to secure a semi-final spot for the St Brigid’s U14 Ladies against competition favourites, and eventual winners, St Paul’s.

Today was one of those days where you had to make your own luck and for the Naomh Brid’ girls, it was one step too far as they came out second best against their old West Belfast rivals. Everyone on the field put in a performance to be proud of, and congratulations to Sorcha McGarvey on being nominated for an ‘All Star’ award at the competition’s close, despite being unavailable today to collect her gong. Plaudits also to newcomer Caitlin Doherty who has grown in stature from week to week, Orlaith Lynch for score of the day, Fionn Laverty for her willingness to play ANYWHERE, Eimear Matthews for her engine and all the rest of the squad who have contributed to our journey!

Since early January, despite some desperate weather, 20 Antrim teams have battled for supremacy on Saturdays to earn their spot in one of four graded groups. St Brigid’s made the top table despite some mixed performances and were teamed with Sarsfield’s, Bredagh, St Paul’s and St Enda’s. Today’s outcome gives an indication of just how competitive this year’s League, Championship and Feile will be!

Most encouraging was the level of camaraderie and respect that continues to grow amongst teams, friendship and rivalry in equal measure! Congratulations to all group winners and to all our St Brigid’s girls….gum shields in and let’s go for season 2015!
