Thanks to Ciaran for compiling the report

After the grading round of matches Brid Óg were placed in division 3 of the
North Antrim League. The coaches all felt that the team should have been in
division 1, after topping their group last weekend, but the organiser’s
decision had to be accepted. On the day the Ógs showed that they deserved to
be in a higher division as they were easily the best team throughout.

St Patrick’s from Donegal, Rossa 2 and Oisin’s 3 failed to turn up, so the
number of games was reduced down to 3 for each team. In the first game
against Dunloy 2, Brid Óg had plenty of scoring opportunites, but the Dunloy
keeper was in inspired form. Owen finally made the breakthrough and went on
to get a couple of more goals and the game finished 3-0. Next was a physical
encounter with Slaughtneil 2 and the Ógs stood up to the battle and came
away with a 2-0 win with Zack and Jack scoring the goals. The final match
was against Ballygalget 2 and Brid Óg saved their best for last and recorded
a 7-0 win, Pearse scored a hat-trick with Jack and Owen among the goals
again. Their final goal was the best of the day when Liam hit a pinpoint
pass from the wing to the edge of the square and Owen doubled on the ball
fire it into the net – exactly the kind of play that had been discussed at
training!

That was the competitive action over and Brid Óg had topped the group to
qualify for next week’s division 3 final. It is unclear who they will play
in the final as the other three teams all beat each other and had 1 win
each, but hopefully Brid Óg can now go on to win the final. We have played
divisional finals on two other occasions and lost both times, so hopefully
our luck will be in this time.

There was still time to play a friendly against Dunloy. This was a
full-rules game. Liam scored at the very start of the game and that put Brid
Óg in control. Dunloy did get a couple of goals, but the Ógs ran out
comfortable winners.
