It was a case of Wednesday Night Lights at Harlequins leading up to the turning back of the clock. St Brigid’s/St Patricks Gaels took on a fancied Carryduff team in preparation for the league starting next week. The game began with a fine score from Mike Cummings who collected and shot instantly over the bar. The visitors almost took the lead only for the Geals keeper Dermo Mc Menamin diving bravely at the feet of the full forward to prevent a goal. Conor O’Doherty put the home a side 3 up with two excellent points,  the first coming after quick fielding and lay off from Cummings and the second after strong link up play from man of the match Rory Smith. Luke O’Neil put the home side further ahead from the scoring zone after a run and lay off from Alex Lavery before the visitors pulled  one back.  Mike Cummings fired over another from close range with Coalan Lynch surely wondering what more he needs to do to get a free in the build up. The ever attacking Conor O’Doherty again hita fine point before Luke O’Neill slot over from close range after being set up by Mark Boylan. This left the score 1-7 to 0-2 at half time.

In the second half the home team got off to a good start with Shane Boyle hitting the net from close range taking a quick free kick as the visitors dallied. Caolan Lynch quickly added the point his busy support play deserved. There was then two Alex Lavery points either side of a “hawkeye” ruling that a Conor O’Doherty point was exactly that. Shane Moran got on the scoresheet picking up loose ball and enjoying the freedom of moving to half back to go up the field and score.  Conor King showed his class under pressure to put over a point from long range after good work from Boylan. The visitors got some of the deficit back with a very well worked team goal. The match was finished off with the kind of team move by Geals they will need against stronger opposition. Quick and patient build up play left Conor O’Doherty free to slot over his fifth of the night.

Score 1.13 to 1-2
