St Bride’s Primary School
Cumann Na mBunscol Ulster Indoor Football Finals
Coosktown 18 April 2013

St Brides Primary School participated in the Cumann Na mBunscol Ulster Indoor 5 a side Football Finals on 18 April 2013 representing County Antrim against teams from Counties Armagh, Down, Tyrone, Fermanagh and Derry. The team consisted of eight St Brigids U12 players

The format involved 7 minutes games of fast moving two touch football.

First up for St Brides were the Fermanagh Champions who represented a substantial physical challenge. St Brides overcame a slow start to win on a score line of 3 goals and 3 points to 6 points.

In the second game St Brides faced the Down Champions, Killcoo. This was a much closer encounter with the teams very evenly matched finishing St Brides 1 goal and 9 points to Killcoo 2 goals and 6 points (a draw).

The third game saw St Brides pitted against the Derry Champions, Lavey. This proved the toughest game of the day against a very skilful and well drilled Lavey outfit and St Brides lost this game.

To qualify for the Semi Final, St Brides were left awaiting the outcome of the Down –v- Fermanagh match which ultimately fell in our favour and St Brides qualified for the Semi Final as second place qualifier from the Group.

The boys then watched the Derry Champions play the Tyrone Champions and in a fantastic display the Tyrone Champions comfortably qualified for the final.

St Brides were then left to play the other semi final against the Armagh representatives. This game was tighter in reality than the score board reflected and St Brides qualified for the final running out winners with a score of one goal and eight points to one goal and four points.

In the final, St Brides met the Tyrone representatives, The Rock. A close fought encounter resulted with St Brides pipped at the post by a point, 1 goal and 4 to 1 goal and 5.

Following presentation of the runners up medals, Mr Duffen observed to the boys that he was very pleased with their performance having competed on a par with the best footballers at under 12 which the Province of Ulster had to offer. Well done to the boys.
