Brid Og u12s perform at Casement on Easter Sunday

Brid Og were asked to field a team for a mini game taking place at half-time in the Antrim v Offaly national league hurling match on Sunday 31st March. Our opposition for the game at Antrim’s headquarters was Saint Ergnat’s Moneyglass, a team we have played on several occasions recently.

As our panel consisted on 13 players we had 2 rolling substitutes as the match was 11-aside. This meant our players positions were constantly getting moved around to give them all the maximum playing time on the pitch.

The Brid Og started the brighter and Ronan got our first score (a goal) with a bursting run through the moneyglass defence. Connla and Diarmaid were winning their contests in midfield and they were able to feed the sliotar to our forwards consisting of Andrew, Ciara, Daniel, Oisin, Ronan and Thomas. Joseph was our keeper for the game and he was protected by Cian, Gerard, Jack and Shane.

Our dominance, possibly due to the constant changing of the players positions, did not yield the scores that the players efforts deserved. The Moneyglass goalkeeper was on fine form and saved two pulls from Ciara and Thomas however Thomas did get a goal later in the game. Our scoring was rounded off with a fine point from distance by Cian. When the final whistle blew we had assembled a lead of 2:1 to 0:0 and our brief time on the hallowed Casement turf was over.

Thanks to thank Ciara Ferry, Dominic McKinley and Kieran Megraw for giving the children this opportunity to play at Casement. Thanks also go to Colm and the other Moneyglass mentors for providing our opposition.

Thanks to Darren Hamill, John Duffy and Gavin Kane for helping with the team selections, looking after the players before the game started and taking the photos attached. It was a great privilege to lead this young team out at Casement and it was great to hear the large vocal support from both teams supporters. Hopefully the players enjoyed playing in front of the large Casement crowd and well done for for putting on a high standard of hurling. Hopefully this will not be the last time this group of players will perform at Antrim’s HQ. This has been the highlight of a great weekend of hurling for Brid Og as our U8’s continued their fine form with a victory against Glenavy, our U12’s followed this up with a victory against the same opposition and our U10’s won the shield in a tournament run by Glenavy as well.
