Division 1 u14 Hurling, Musgrave
Brid Og 2-4 v Glenavy 2-5

On Saturday 9th June Brid Og u14 hurlers played host to South West side Glenavy in the Division 1 league.

In perfect conditions Glenavy got off the perfect start with an early goal and point. However as the half wore on Brid Og began to gain decent possession at midfield and pressed for scores. After a few near misses their opening score did arrive with a pointed effort. However Glenavy hit back with a second rather fortunate goal when the ball rebounded off the crossbar hitting the diving and helpless Ruriai in goals, to roll over the goal line.

Not to be deterred Brid Og finished the half strongly, dominating possession and were justly rewarded with a well taken goal to leave the half-time score 1-1 to 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

As the second half got underway the lads from Brid Og maintained their dominance in all sectors and rattled off two great points. And if were not for some wayward shooting and stern Glenavy defence, there would have been several additional scores. Brid Og continued to pressurise and were rewarded with a second goal as the game entered the final 5 minutes.

Now two points in arrears Glenavy responded to the challenge as the Brid Og lads tired. In a four minute spell Glenavy recorded four great points to retake a 2 point lead with the game entering injury time. Brid Og, however did not give up the ghost and fought their way back up the field and were awarded a 21 yard free. With the last puck of the game the effort for goal whistled over the crossbar to leave the home team the wrong side of a one point defeat.

While defeated on the day the players who turned out can be extremely proud of the high standard of hurling displayed throughout, in what transpired to be one of their best performances of the year. With all bar two players still aged 12 or under, this performance augers very well for a young team building for next year.

Well done to all 13 who turned out on the day and have consistently represented this team over the past number of weeks.
