Saturday 19th May
Brid Og 1-4 v St Galls 4-9

The u14 hurlers continued their league campaign with the visit of St Galls to Musgrave on Saturday 19th May. Our numbers were somewhat depleted with a number of dual players participating in the Carryduff football tournament and as a result we fielded 13 players for the start of the game.

St Galls, aided by a slight breeze, started the stronger and two quick-fire goals followed by two points really set the tone for the opening 20 minute period. St Galls continued to dominate proceedings and added a further goal and 4 points as the half progressed. However, the players from Brid Og showed great determination and began to drive forward with some conviction, and but for some wayward shooting should have narrowed the deficit. Their just rewards did arrive and persistence paid off when they slotted their first score of the game. St Galls responded with a couple of points to leave the halftime score Brid Og 0-1 St Galls 3-9.

On the restart Brid Og immediately increased the tempo of their game and gained a stranglehold around the middle diamond. Midway through the half two points were added and with Brid Og now playing the better hurling they added a very well taken goal. Wayward shooting continued to hamper progress on the score board with a number of opportunities for goals and points missed. St Galls too were guilty of missed opportunities however Brid Og can claim a second half victory! Final score Brid Og 1-4 St Galls 4-9.

All credit to the understrength team who battled for the full 40 minutes and showed a terrific performance in the second half. While well beaten by a stronger St Galls side, the team has continued to progress and is showing improvements on a weekly basis.
