The U8 “Ulster and Munster teams” had their first competitive outing against Saint Enda’s on Sunday and both teams produced an open brand of attacking and exciting football.

The Ulster team was well served by an outstanding performance in goals from Donal Hanna whose accurate kick outs were a feature of the match.

In the defence there was particularly good performances from Connor Brown, Brian Mc Gurk and Niall (Francie Bellew) Murtagh, their work rate, particularly in the last quarter, being particularly commendable. All three defenders proved rock solid and dependable under pressure.

The engine room of the team was particularly well served by Joseph O Sullivan and Aodhan McNicholl. The two midfield players challenged for every ball and covered every blade of grass on the field. O Sullivan and Mc Nicholl both chipped in with some very important and impressive scores. Both players won their individual battles.

Up front the team was well served by James Gorman, Niall Finnegan and Fintan Cleary. Each forward contributed valuable scores, and it was noticeable that their teamwork was of a particularly high standard. One goal in particular involving Cleary, Gorman and finished by Finnegan was particularly appreciated by the large crowd.

Well done boys. The Munster under 8 team also put in a wonderful first outing. In goal (P3) Owen Mc Carney making his debut made some very important and telling saves. The full backs were very well served by a solid Conor Mc Ateer, young (P3) Colm Finnegan and the very impressive Ronan Mc Keown. Mc Ateer also did a stint in goals where his kick outs were instrumental in setting up many attacks.

James Kilpatrick and Rory Birt were in command in midfield for much of the game. Both players worked tirelessly for their team mates. Upfront there were some good scores from the exciting forward line with particularly good performances from little Liam Magee, who scored one spectacular long range point, the very hard working Gareth Gileece and the “entertaining” Dara (THE DAZZLER) McKay.

Young Shane Graham (another P3) was introduced during the game and certainly looks like one for the future.

Again well done boys.
