The St Brigids under 16s, short a few long term injuries, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the opening league at the Glen Road venue. The home side started strongly and hit three wide on the trot, but eventually St Brigids played some good football to come into the game and the boots of McGovern and Leonard kept converting the frees. With Quinn and Conway catching clean ball in the middle, there was effective use of ball in the scoring stakes compared to Teresa’s who were guilty of some glaring wides in the opening half. The score at the break was 7 pts to 5 to the Malone Road boys.

Three second half goals into a slight breeeze was the undoing of the visitors. Six second half points could have been 16 such was the multitude of wides shot from placed ball and play by Naomh Brid. Maurice Campbell at full back once more stood up and was counted, ably assisted by Niall Lundy. Up front occasional glimpses of quailty from McGovern, O’Boyle and Kealan Lynch was not enough to convert the many chances that went abegging. The pick of the bunch were Campbell, Conway and Quinn on the night.
