Fourteen players representing St Brigids Under 8 struggled to make an impact on the Carryduff tournament today, despite some very strong showings throughout their 5 games. In the pool games they were beaten by 4 points, 1 point and 3 points by An Riocht, Clann Eireann and Carrickrubben respectively. Considering that the south Armagh team went on to win the 16 team competition outright that result in itself was a highly credible one for this somewhat inexperienced St Brigids side. Indeed had efforts from Hugo Leeson, Matthew McGuigan and Conor Mulgrew not gone narrowly wide the result would have been very different.

In the 4th tier ‘semi final’ St Brigids were in control and has assumed the lead through a terrific point from Joe Fitzpatrick, when calamity struck. Darragh Cross scored two goals from speculative shots and despite a flurry of attacks and a fine point from David Aiken, the match was lost. The most disappointing game was probably the final one of the day V Carryduff, when the squad was depleted and perhaps tiredness had set in.

All in all there were encouraging signs and plenty to work on. The effort of all the players was commendable and they played a full role in a very successful tournament. With thanks to Sean Sherry and Carryduff.
