Under 16s

The under 16s have had a mixed week whereby they went to Glenravel and drew, but where defeated by St Johns in the first match of the league and beat local rival Breda in the challenge on Sunday 4-10 to 3-7.

In the Glenravel game the standard of the play was not what it should have been but great performances from John Bailey and Ronan McGrady helped secure the draw.

In the league St Brigids could safely say that they where the better team but their tendency to go for glory and score goals was their downfall.

Far too often they try to walk the ball into the net instead of fisting it over the bar and ended up loosing by 7 points.

The backline produced heroics, Michael Campbell was not in fault for the goals.

Michael Webb, Gerry Bogue and Benny Lee all played well with the half backline of Rory, JB and Gareth holding out St Johns for most of the game.

Midfield worked hard but the forward line had a tendency not to drop back and defend and thus St Johns came through in droves which put more pressure on St Brigids backline.

In the Breda game it was competitive but played under good spirits, Cathal Conway came up from the under 14s, and players who had not started against St Johns such as Damien Chesser and Eoin McCarry all contributed handsomely.

The forward line improved vastly with Mark Stuart trying hard, Ronan Mackle playing more like his usual, Jack Dowling beginning to use his height and catch the ball but with Rory Flannigan being the star and scoring 3 goals.

The back line well marshalled by Jerry Bogue all played well with JB again showing his running ability if the team would use him when he goes on these runs he would be a greater asset.

Benny Lee performed well and Garett Cullen played his usual sound game.

We think Michael Webb is still dizzy but when he saw his points on the video from the Clans game he came around!

Andrew Sweeney and Peter Mooney played a solid game at midfield.

The next match is Sarsfields at home on Thursday night and we would ask all parents to come and support.
