St Brigid’s GAC Minors 0.6 v Lamh Derg 0-7

Playing with a strong wind in the first half St Brigid’s started well with Ryan Mackle getting a point from play and Conor Mackle slotting two nice frees. In reply Lamh Dergs no. 13 scored a couple of frees and a point from play left the teams 3 each at half time. Luke McCann,Tommy O’Neill and Martin Ramsay were only playing together for the first time on the front line and there were signs of a little interplay just before half time when some neat interplay ended with Martin ramsay shooting on target, but the keeper saved well.

Gerry Bogue came into the Right Full back and newcomer Michael Lavery came in up front at the start of the 2nd half.

The second half saw some of the brightest football from this minor team in ’08. There was evidence of some of the coaching paying off with good driving out of defence and better support play. The play was driven from the St Brigid’s half back line with the two Bens Kelly and Sinott and Ciaran Mackle breaking up a lot of play and being supported by the Midfield sector. If Mark Kelly and Ryan Mackle can start working for the whole match like they did at times today they will have a great season.

Points from play were difficult to come by again in the second half, with both forward lines reticent about taking a score. It looked as if naomh brid had made the brealthrough when Laverty netted. Confusion then reigned when the perfectly good goal was disallowed by the ref after having signalled a goal, when Michael Lavery converted from within the large square. Michael showed a willingness and alertness that augurs well for the future in his first appearance of the season.

Lamh Derg scored a couple of very well taken frees at the start of the 2nd half and maintained that lead to the end of the match , St Brigid’s continued to draw equal ,but a final point from a dead ball from Lamh Derg capped this very close encounter. It took a mammoth effort from a free from 5O metres to
Seal a one point victory for the Red Hands.

Lots of positives to take into training this Thursday at 6:30pm at Harlequins.
