Blitzed!

An experimental St Brigid’s U-11 girls team travelled to Davitts for the annual blitz tournament on 19th August, facing some fairly stiff competition. The first challenge against Moneyglass saw sterling performances particularly from Abigail Carleton and Bronagh King. The second match against hosts Davitts was sure to be a tough one, but thanks to exceptional performances from team regulars Niamh Dunford and Eva McCartan, an early lead was established. Newcomer to the team Helen Bogue played well, with Maggie Webb scoring the first of the goals in her debut appearance, and team captain Abigail Carleton scoring the second.
In the final game against a strong Glenariffe team, with the impressive Heaney sisters, Lara and Ellie in the forward line, and Fiona Campbell dominating defence, the south Belfast girls lead by narrow 2 points at half time. A strong second half display from all 9 players saw them finish with a well deserved 2-7 to 1-4 win to secure the trophy undefeated. Special mention must be made of Bronagh King who played throughout with a knee injury, picked up in the first match.
