A superb performance from the young under 14s gave futher evidence that the
St. Brigids youth policy is paying dividends. The return league game against St. Enda’s, Glengormley showed considerable improvement on the first day when a draw was secured. This time a powerful second half saw the Malone boys come from three points down to romp home.

The first half began with the Naomh Eanna side in control and they could have had another six scores had their shooting boots been on. Instead they took an early lead of four points to two after the first quarter. However, the boys in blue began to get to grips in midfield and McGrady, Winters, Flanagan and Prenter all began to assert their authority and were able to establish level pegging at half time at six points each.

The second half saw St Brigid’s play with a slight breeze and things should have augured well for the visitors to Hightown, but three quick points from the hosts in the first five minutes left Naomh Brid with a hill to climb. Two turning points in the game were a stunning save from Salters in nets, from which he was able to clear his lines and the attack led to a white flag.
Then manager Campbell brought on Gildea (who was brave enough to wear Armagh socks instead of the regulation blue and yellow). This proved to be a master stroke with Gildea plucking three balls out of the clouds and setting up three attacks which were all converted. With Prenter at full forward the attack had more potency. St Enda’s lost shape and a little discipline and were conceding frees, which St Brigid’s punished.

The final score of St Brigids 3:11 St Enda’s 0:12 was a tribute to a team on a roll winning their last four games in a row. The large crowd of travelling support
went home content with a display of resolve and courage that turned a thre point deficit into comfortable victory.
