St Brigid’s 0-7 Dromara 0-3

St Brigid’s Minors entertained Dromara Minors on Sunday 1st April at YMCA Bladon Drive, but due to delays in starting the match and time constraints the match only lasted 30 minutes.

This was a great pity as on a glorious sunny Sunday morning both sides played exciting skilful football.

Dromara got off to a very good start and dominated proceedings for the first 10 minutes. However too many wides meant that the Co Down outfit registered only two points in that period.

Mathew Edgar making a welcome come back, was deputising in midfield for Tim McCrudden, out with an injury. Along with Michael Malone, Mathew was beginning to get his bearings and St Brigid’s then started taking control of midfield.

David Brennan and Chris Mooney on the wings started orchestrating the St Brigid’s attacks. The first point for St Brigid’s followed a swift move from Steve O’Brien to David Brennan who hit the ball high – sweetly between the posts. This initial point settled St Brigid’s and from then on the rhythm of the play was constant attacks on the Co Down Team.

A further point resulted from a great solo run from Chris Mooney.

Ryan Mackle was putting in a great performance at corner forward and with the space he was creating he added two of his own points. Not to be outdone Chris Mooney slotted over his second point as well after great work by Karl Fitzpatrick.

Ronan Ward had been slotted into an unfamiliar position for him at full forward and displayed great confidence in taking his own point.

Whilst St Brigid’s had notched up 7 points Dromora had only registered 1 further point leave the score line 7 points to St Brigid’s and 3 points to Dromara.

Unfortunately the match at that stage had to be stopped as YMCA were entertaining their rugby brethren.

This was an excellent performance by both teams with football being played to a high sporting standard.

St Brigid’s were missing many of their regulars for various “reasons”.

Thomas McGeogh, coming back to the team, from his “McClarnon exploits” had a great game in defence. Luke McGread’s tackling and passing was first class standard.

The Midfield pairing of Mathew Edgar and Michael Malone took a while to get their bearings but soon dominated proceedings.

Ryan Mackle was having one of his best games in the forward line and revelled in the space he created for himself. Other noteworthy performances came from Karl Fitzpatrick, Stevie O’Brien and David Brennan but overall this was a solid satisfactory performance from the St Brigid’s Minors, which puts them in good heart for the start of their league campaign on Tuesday.
