St Brigid’s seconds recorded an excellent victory over St Enda’s in a top of the table clash at Deramore. When these teams met in the first game of the season it was the Glengormley men who came out on top with more than 20 points to spare! It’s a measure of how the team has progressed since, as they have fallen only to a one point defeat against Mitchells, and have won all their other games in the past three months.

St Brigid’s led the way from the start and the physical strength and height of the McDonald brothers and Conall Mallory gave the blues a strong edge in the mid field diamond right from the start.

St Brigid’s opened the scoring with a Mel MacSherry free and points followed from Gormley, Mallory, Paddy and Niall McDonald and Eoin Murphy, despite some very wasteful shooting from the home side. A combination of hard work and fast movement created a goal chance for Duncan MacAuley, which he took with aplomb to add to his earlier point.

Half Time Naomh Brid 1-08 St Enda’s 0-3

St Brigid’s didn’t really show for the second half and their hesitancy all across the field allowed St Enda’s back into the game.

The visitors scored 1-4 without reply as the half time advantage was cut to the minimum.

Hurried shots, further wides and incomplete passes were the story of the half as St Enda’s piled on the pressure but could not draw level.

With Niall McDonald working tirelessly and supported well by Paul Finnegan at centre half back, St Brigid’s weathered the storm. Eventually St Brigid’s got a point and Niall McDonald tapped over a relieving score before Duncan MacAuley secured the points with a well taken point in the 33rd minute.

Thanks to the large turnout of players and supporters.

Thanks also to Conor MacSherry and Eunan Conway for lining out the pitch.
