There’s nothing like a competitive challenge match to start off the season. Our opponents, the “Glen” girls from Derry, with several county titles and Ulster club medals to their name. The first third could only be described as testing the water, mistakes were made but after a very passionate sideline talk we started putting it up to the country girls. Great defence from Eimear Mckenna and Aoife MacSherry soon silenced the forwards which posed such a threat in the opening stages of the match. Time went on and we gradually began to match their intensity as we settled into our stride. Once again Rachael Mckeogh and Catherine Mullan used their speed to carve through the Glen backs. Sophie Curran was consistent and strong in the middle of the field laying off to new addition Caoimhe McCaullagh who posed a great threat on the half forward line. However it was Jenny McMullan who was awarded “man of the match” because she showed such heart and determination throughout the whole match.
The Glen ladies were very welcoming and sandwiches, tea and biscuits finished off a great day.
