Semi – final :Moneyglass 0-0 ;St Brigids 6-20.
Seamus Heaney may have been right when he said we have no prairies to slice a
big sun at evening. But if he crossed the Bann and travelled a couple of miles to
Moneyglass on a glorious August summer evening he would not only have witnessed
that big sun setting and a misty moon rising but more importantly a masterclass
in team-work and finishing from a rampant St Brigids U-16 team.
The mid-field pairing of Sophie Curran and Aoife McSherry were dominant and each
put 1-3 on the scoreboard.Orla Cassidy said she had never played up front
before. She went on to score 3 points.Hannah McGrath and Julie Curran- the
youngest player by far on the pitch and clearly showing that Curran winner’s
mentality that we in St Brigids Ladies know and love so well -scored 1 apiece.
However, topping even that,Nicola Smye proved to be unstoppable and
unsurpaceable. To the words “So you did .Nicola” ringing in her ears from an
obviously overawed and delighted coach she finished the day with 3 goals and 8
points to the credit and an MVP.
In every position from Rose McKeogh at the back to the coach’s first-born at
the front [the best goal of the night,Ruth!] St Brigids were outstanding.
Despite the scoreline,Moneyglass put pressure on and put up a spirited display.
Our U-16s now meet ST Pauls in next Saturday’s final.Come out to support THE
ONLY St Brigids team to make a county championship FINAL this year.
