Senior Ladies Sun 18th Sept
Glenavy 3-8 St Brigids 3-12
In a cauldron of a game when big questions about commitment .grit and
determination in the face of extreme adversity [not to mention bad
language, intimidation and the odd slap]were asked, your senior Ladies answered
in the positive.
Scores rained in from various sources – and body parts,Mairead Mc Nally scoring
with her knee at one point[a feat never seen before on a Gaeilge field] -but
Sarah Mc Guckian notched up 1-4 from the tip of the mid-field diamond and put on
another shining performance.Head and shoulders above even that was Elizabeth Ann
McKeogh.Next to the coach she was probably one of the the smaller players on
the field but her performance was simply outstanding. The 1-3 she scored does not
do justice to her contribution and teamwork.Hard work on the training pitch was
reflected in her and indeed the whole team’s performance.
At half time the match was finely balanced at 2-8 to 3-3 for the Blue and
Yellows.Sarah had crashed a shot into the crossbar which then bounced straight
to the line .A Russian referee would given the goal but not today.Glenavy fought
back from that and for a while it looked like they wou.ld gain the upper
hand. And then your daughters showed true resilience: Bronagh McKendry burst out
from the back;played to Ciara Loughran in the middle who ,causing herself a
painful knee injury in the process, passed to her partner Catherine Mullan who
in turn soloed at breakneck speed and finished a fine move with a point.
A goal and two points followed and the only reply from the home side was 2
points. Not enough it turned out and St Brigids finished at 3-12 to Glenavy’s
3-8.
